Has the organic reach from your Facebook posts dropped off a cliff? Ours did. And so did most of our customers’. This happened because Facebook made an algorithm update. We tested a number of different types of content, times of day, etc. but it became clear that Facebook was going to force us to advertise if you want to increase your reach on Facebook.
Then, a statement from Facebook leaked that confirmed what we had been seeing for months. Here is that statement,
“We expect organic distribution of an individual page’s posts to gradually decline over time as we continually work to make sure people have a meaningful experience on the site.”
AKA – if you want people to see your content, you’re going to have to pay for it.
Don’t let this turn you off of Facebook, because it’s the most effective social platform for driving your online objectives (awareness, sales, newsletter sign-ups, event registrations, etc.). After some exploring on Facebook, here’s what we found…
We saw a dramatic difference between posts we “boosted” (spent money on) and posts we didn’t.
We quickly realized you don’t need a big (or even medium) sized budget to see impressive results when boosting Facebook posts. For small businesses, we recommend boosting a post with $5-10 to start.
On average, companies post 3-4 times per week on Facebook. If you boost each post with $5, that’s $60-$100 per month. If you aren’t doing any paid social, that may seem like a lot.
You have 2,000 followers on Facebook.
